Josef Blum

Josef " Pepi " Blum ( born February 4, 1898 in Vienna, † October 18, 1956 ) was an Austrian football player, coach and member of the miracle team.

Life and career

Josef Blum began his career in 1913 when Nußdorfer AC. In 1918, he joined the First Vienna FC 1894 and remained the Döblingern faithful to his career in late 1933. The Vienna was in his time as one of the foremost defenders of Austria. He was known primarily for his speed and his excellent positional play. The calm and prudent Vienna also was a feared kick and penalty specialist.

With the Vienna Blum celebrated with great success as a player. 1929 and 1930 he was with his club Austrian Cup Winner 1931 Austrian champion and Mitropapokalsieger and 1933 (with some inserts 1932) before finishing his playing career and the change as a coach for Austria Wien again Austrian champion.

His debut in the Austrian national team celebrated Blum on November 7, 1920 in a 2-1 win over Hungary in Budapest. From his appearance at the Vienna and the team he was due to its investments once called " Wödmasta " (World Champion ). A title that later fell to after the Second World War, Ernst Happel. From 1920 to 1932 he completed a total of 51 missions in the national team and was for twelve years the undisputed captain. In the first game of the miracle team on May 16, 1931 against Scotland was Josef Blum already 33 years old and was considered a well- respected chef in the team of the Austrians. His last game in the national team played Josef Blum, who was also nominated another 20 times into the Vienna team, on 24 April 1932 in Vienna. The Austrian team celebrated a 8-2 victory over Hungary.

After his active career as a football player, he served as trainer Austria Vienna, Racing Strasbourg, First Vienna FC 1894, the Wiener Sport - Club and the SV Kapfenberg. With the Vienna Austria he celebrated in 1933, in his first year with the victory in the Vienna Cup and the Mitropapokalgewinn his greatest success as a coach.

1956 Josef Blum died at the age of 59 years on the effects of a stroke.
