Joseph Coutts

Joseph Coutts ( born July 21, 1945 in Amritsar, Pakistan) is appointed Roman Catholic Archbishop of Karachi.

Life

Joseph Coutts studied at Christ the King Seminary in Karachi and received on January 9, 1971 in Lahore ordination. After further studies in Rome, he became a professor of philosophy at Christ the King Regional Seminary in Karachi, later rector of St. Mary's Minor Seminary in Lahore and Vicar General.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Coadjutor Bishop 1988 in the Diocese of Hyderabad in Pakistan. He received his episcopal consecration on 16 September 1988 Bishop Bonaventure Patrick Paul, OFM; Co-consecrators were Armando Trindade, Bishop of Lahore, and Emanuele Gerada, Apostolic Nuncio to Pakistan. After the death of Bonaventure Patrick Paul, he was appointed in 1990 to the Bishop of Hyderabad. In 1998 he was appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Faisalabad. On January 25, 2012 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. Archbishop of Karachi.

Coutts is the Director of Caritas Pakistan.
