Joseph Tyree Sneed, III

Joseph Tyree Sneed III ( born July 21, 1920 in Calvert, Texas, † February 9, 2008 in San Francisco, California ) was an American lawyer, judge and high school teachers, the deputy for a short time was U.S. Attorney General.

Life

After schooling Sneed first studied Business Administration at the Southwestern University and acquired there in 1941 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. After the entry of the United States into the Second World War he served from 1942 to 1946 his military service in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was last promoted to Staff Sergeant.

After his retirement from active military service, he studied law at the Law School of the University of Texas at Austin and graduated in 1947 with a Bachelor of Laws ( LL.B. ) from. He then took there on a call to a professorship of Law and taught until 1957 at the University of Texas. After that, he was from 1957 to 1962 Professor of Law at Cornell University and acquired at this time in 1958 a Doctor of Juridical Science ( SJD ) at the Law School of Harvard University.

In 1962 he accepted an appointment as Professor of Law at Stanford University and taught there until his appointment as a professor of law at Duke University in 1971. During his local teaching until 1973 he was at the same time also Dean of the Law School of the University. After a subsequent short stint as U.S. Deputy Attorney General and thus Assistant Attorney General in 1973, Sneed was 1973-1987 Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals, based in San Francisco, with responsibility for the Ninth District Court of Appeals.

Sneed, who had a lawyer approvals in the U.S. states of Texas and New York, then was also a lawyer in the law firm of Graves, Daugherty and Green Hill. In addition, he was active in the American Bar Association, the American Judicature Society and the American Law Institute.

His oldest daughter, Carly Fiorina was CEO from 1999 to 2005 the U.S. technology company Hewlett -Packard (HP) and ran unsuccessfully in 2010 as a Republican in California for the U.S. Senate.
