Joshua Lee (New York politician)

Joshua Lee ( * 1783 in Hudson, New York, † December 29, 1842 in Penn Yan, New York) was an American physician and politician. Between 1835 and 1837 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Joshua Lee was born in the last year of the Revolutionary War in Columbia County. He studied medicine. In 1804 he received his license. Governor Daniel D. Tompkins hired him in 1811 for Surgeon in Colonel Avery Smith's infantry regiment - a post he had during the British - American War. In 1815 he was supervisor in the Town of Benton in Yates County. He was 1817 and 1833 in the New York State Assembly. Politically, he was a member of the Jacksonian Group.

In the congressional elections of 1834 for the 24th Congress, Lee was in the 27th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Edward Howell on March 4, 1835. He retired after the March 3, 1837 out of the Congress.

After his conference time he went back to his work after a doctor. In 1839 he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the Senate from New York. He died about four years before the outbreak of the Mexican - American War in Penn Yan. His body was then buried in the Lakeview Cemetery.
