Josif Dorfman

Josif Davidovich Dorfman (also Iosif Iosif, Joseph, born May 1, 1952 in Zhytomyr ) is a Ukrainian- French chess player and coach.

Dorfman is the multiple participants in the USSR championships, he once - in Leningrad 1977 - could win along with Boris Gulko; the overdue playoff for the title ended in a draw ( 1, -1, = 4). In the 1980s, Dorfman 's second Garry Kasparov was in its first four championship fights against Anatoly Karpov.

Dorfman has lived since about 1990 in France, in 1998 French single champion and 2000 runner-up. In the years 1998, 2002 and 2004, he played at chess Olympiads for the French national team. Dorfman is also considered successful chess coach to his pupils there was also the French player Etienne Bacrot top of the world. He has published two books: The Chess Method ( 2001) and The Critical Moment ( 2002).

From 2000 to 2003 Dorfman was active in the German Chess Bundesliga for Hamburger SK. In the Austrian Bundesliga he last played in the season 2004/ 05 for the SV Tschaturanga new building.

Josif Dorfman was in 1977 awarded by the World Chess Federation FIDE the title of International Master, a year later to a grandmaster. Since 2004, he contributes to the title FIDE Senior Trainer. His current Elo rating is 2585 (as of March 2011), his previous highest was in 2617 from July to December 2002.
