Jørn Sloth
Jørn Sloth Østergaard ( born September 5, 1944 in Sjørring, Thisted Municipality ) is a Danish chess player and the 8th correspondence chess world champion.
Sloth, by profession a teacher in mathematics and Russian at the grammar school Ringkøbing, scored alongside his correspondence chess successes, a number of excellent Nahschachergebnisse.
OTB
In 1962 he was in OTB chess Danish youth champion. In 1964 he took a shared first place at the European Championships for Juniors in Groningen. In the same year he won the championship of Aarhus, 1967, he became a master of Copenhagen. In 1965 he scored in the Olympiad students a score of 10.5 out of 12 in 1972, he was a member ( 3 board ) of the Danish national team at the Chess Olympiad in Skopje. In 1975, he was the Danish runners-up. He wears the FIDE Master title.
His best Elo rating was 2400. This he achieved in 1979.
Correspondence Chess
In correspondence chess, which he runs since 1959, he was far more successful: 1963/65 he finished the Baltic - team tournament undefeated with 5 out of 8 points. In 1973, he won the European Championship 8, 1978, the ICCF awarded him the correspondence chess grandmaster title. He won the 1975-1980 discharged 8 Correspondence Chess World Championship, becoming the youngest ever World Chess Champion remote. In 1992, he was ranked 3 in Axelsson Memorial Tournament, which was attended by only grandmasters.
His correspondence chess Elo rating is currently 2568 (as of December 2005).

Sloth is married and has three children.
