Juan Bernardo Huyke

Juan Bernardo Huyke ( born June 11, 1880 in Arroyo, † December 17, 1961 in San Juan ) was a Puerto Rican politician. In 1923 he was appointed acting governor of Puerto Rico.

Career

Juan was Huyke 1908-1910 School Board ( Superintendent ) in his home. He fought for bilingual education. From 1912 to 1920 he was a member of the House of Representatives of Puerto Rico. Between 1921 and 1930 he served as Commissioner of Public Instruction Minister of Education of Puerto Rico.

In 1923, officiated Huyke for several months as acting governor of the territory. He bridged the period between the resignation of his predecessor Emmet Montgomery Reily and the inauguration of the new governor Horace Mann Towner. Between 1935 and 1945 led Huyke the Services Commission of Puerto Rico. He died on December 17, 1961 in San Juan.
