Robert Hayes Gore

Robert Hayes Gore (* 1886 in Knott, Kentucky, † 1972) was a politician in the U.S. state of Florida, newspaper editor and from July 1933 to January 1934 11 civilian governor of Puerto Rico.

Robert Hayes Gore was born in Knott Ville in Kentucky and became a journalist. Soon he rose to editor of several newspapers in Evansville, Indiana, and Terre Haute, Indiana, on. During his time as editor of the " Terre Haute Post," Gore had the idea to cave in to new subscriptions to the newspaper a $ 1,000 insurance. After winning an insurer as a partner, he spread this program throughout the country. Within a year, Gore became very wealthy and founded a publishing company in Terre Haute and Chicago in an insurance agency. In Terre Haute he met Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was a candidate at this time for the office of Vice President of the United States. This chance encounter eventually led to his appointment as governor of Puerto Rico. In his inaugural speech as governor on July 1, 1933, he explained the three pillars on which he wanted to build his tenure.
