Julián Alonso

Julián Alonso Pintor ( born August 2, 1977 in Canet de Mar ) is a retired Spanish tennis player.

Life

Alonso came in 1994 and 1995 at the Orange Bowl International Championships, the unofficial junior tennis championship in Miami Beach, and each reached the quarterfinals. In 1994, he defeated Nicolas Lapentti, the year after Tommy Haas. He was a professional tennis player in 1996 and was able to win his first title on the ATP World Tour already in the following year. In individual he won in Santiago against the local heroes Marcelo Ríos, in a double he won at the side of Karim Alami in Marbella. The following year, he won the respective second and last tournament victory in singles and doubles. In addition, he won on the ATP Challenger Tour two more singles and three doubles titles. The highest quotation in the tennis world ranking he reached in 1998 with position 30 and position 53 in the single in a double.

His best individual result at a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the second round of the Australian Open, which he managed for two consecutive years. In the doubles competition in 1998, he stood at the side of Nicolas Lapentti in the quarterfinals of the French Open, after they had beaten in the first round, set at position five Ellis Ferreira and Rick Leach.

Alonso played between 1998 and 1999, two singles and three doubles matches for the Spanish Davis Cup team. His two singles matches he won, by the three double encounters he gave two from. His biggest success was with the team to participate in the semifinals of the World Group in 1998. During the 1:4 defeat against Sweden, he won the single point for Spain by defeating Thomas Johansson.
