Kaarlo Maaninka

Kaarlo Hannes Maaninka ( born December 25, 1953 in Posio ) is a former Finnish long-distance runner.

Maaninka was four times Finnish champion in 1979 in the 10,000 meter run and 1978 to 1980 three times in cross country skiing on the long haul. His major successes came at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. In the 10,000 - meter race, he surprisingly won the silver medal behind Miruts Yifter and before Mohammed Kedir. A few days later he secured in the 5000 -meter run the bronze medal behind the victorious again Miruts Yifter and Suleiman Nyambui.

1981 admitted Maaninka to have received blood transfusions before the Olympics. Blood doping was not yet banned at that time. Kaarlo Maaninka is 1,78 m tall and had a competition weight of just 60 kg.
