Kaeo (name of Māori for a growing bivalve mollusc in Kaeo River ) is a village in the Far North District in the Northland region of the North Island of New Zealand. It is located on State Highway 10 Nearest places on Highway Orotere are about 3 km southeast and Waitraruke, about 7 km to the northwest. About roads to reach the north and north-west towns Otoroa, Matauri Bay, Wainui, Mahionepuna, Tauranga Bay, Tauranga Valley and Whangaroa. The town lies on the Kaeo River, which flows 4 km north-west in the Whangaroa Harbour. The economy is dominated by agriculture. In situated north of Kaeo Tepene - plateau there is a china clay quarry.

Kaeo is the social center of the region around the Whangaroa River and in addition to the municipal library, an Anglican and a Methodist church, shops and the fire department.
