Kamionek, Opole Voivodeship

Kleinstein, Polish Kamionek, is a town in Upper Silesia. Small stone located in the municipality Gogolin in powiat Krapkowicki in Polish Opole Voivodeship.

Geographical Location

Small stone is located six kilometers northeast of the municipal center Gogolin, ten kilometers northeast of the county town Krapkowice ( Krappitz ) and 19 kilometers southeast of the Opole voivodship.

Northeast of small stone is the airfield Opole Kamien Slaski - (Gross Stein).

History

The town was first mentioned in 1531 as a "mini Kamyonek ". 1571 was followed by a mention as " Kamenekh ".

In the plebiscite in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921 voted 64 voters to remain in Germany and 306 for Poland. Small Stone remained with the German Reich. 1933 lived 734 inhabitants in the village. In 1938 the chapel was built. 1939, the place had 795 inhabitants. By 1945, the place was in the district of Great Strehlitz.

In the period of the Second World War here was the camp Kleinstein (concentration camp for Jewish mongrels ) of the Organisation Todt.

In 1945 the previously German place under Polish administration, was renamed Kamionek and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950, the City of Opole Voivodeship, in 1999 came to the powiat Krapkowicki. From 2004 to 2005, the chapel was rebuilt in 1938. On 30 April 2010, the City also received the official German place names Kleinstein.
