Kanazawa, Ishikawa

Kanazawa (Japanese金 沢 市, -shi) is a city, seaport and administrative center of the Ishikawa Prefecture on Honshu, the main island of Japan. Kanazawa is located about 150 km north of Nagoya on the coast of the Japanese sea and is with over 450,000 inhabitants, the largest city in the Hokuriku Region.

History

Historically Kanazawa was the center of the Ikko-Ikki (一向 一 揆; " Ikko- riots " ) in the province of Kaga. The so-called Buddhist Ikko- Shuu (一向 宗) overthrew the prince in the 15th century and ruled for nearly a century autonomous. 1580 threw Oda Nobunaga the Buddhist government of the so-called "peasant kingdom". 1583 finally pulled Maeda Toshiie as daimyo of the Kaga fief in the province of Noto Kanazawa one.
