Kannus

Kannus [ kɑn ː us] is a city in western Finland with 5727 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is situated in the countryside Central Ostrobothnia about halfway between the cities of Kokkola (42 km east) and Ylivieska (38 km east). Neighboring communities of Kannus are Kalajoki in the north, Sievi in the east, in the southeast and Toholampi Kokkola on the west. The city is monolingual Finnish speakers.

The municipality consists Kannus since 1858, in 1986 she was awarded the status of a city. In the area of Kannus are the villages Eskola, Hanhineva, Korpela, Mutkalampi, Märsylä, Välikannus, Ylikannus and Yliviirre. By Kannus the Lestijoki River flows.
