Kariwa (Niigata)

Kariwa (Japanese刈 羽 村, -mura ) is a village community in the district Kariwa in Niigata prefecture on the interior of Honshu, the main island of Japan.

Geography

The community Kariwa is characterized by the unusual shape of its municipal area. This consists of two separate parts. The western part where the majority of the population lives since the incorporation of Nishiyama after Kashiwazaki in 2005, an enclave in Kashiwazaki. In the far west of the municipality at the Japanese Sea lies the Kashiwazaki - Kariwa nuclear power plant, where the coastal strip of about 50-100 m width is also part of Kashiwazaki, so that the community has no access to the sea. Approximately one mile separated from the western part is an exclave of the municipality with the districts Aburaden (油田) and Kurokawa (黒 川) on the border between Kashiwazaki and Nagaoka.

History

Today's church was established on April 1, 1901 from the merger of the old community Kariwa with Katsuyama (胜 山村, -mura ) and parts of Tōjō (东城 村, -mura ). On 30 September 1956, the integration of parts of Nakadori (中 通 村, -mura ) and on 10 April 1959 by parts of Futada (二 田村, -mura ) was followed. Since the merging of Nishiyama and after Kashiwazaki Kariwa Takayanagi is the only community of its homonymous district.

On 16 July 2007, the Niigata Chuetsu - coast earthquake shook the neighboring Kashiwazaki and Kariwa in 2007.
