Karl Hase

Karl August Hase, ( born 25 August 1800 in Lower Steinbach, † January 3, 1890 in Jena) 1883 von Hase was a Protestant theologian, professor of theology at the University of Jena and Grand Duke of Saxon Real privy.

Family

Hare married on 12 September 1831 in Leipzig Pauline Härtel ( born April 12, 1809 in Leipzig, † March 20, 1885 in Jena ), the daughter of the publisher and Gottfried Christoph Härtel landowner, owner of the Leipzig music publisher Breitkopf & Härtel and squire to Cotta and the Amalie Klötzer.

On September 18, 1883, he was raised in Gotha in the Saxon- coburg - gothaer hereditary nobility.

On the oldest son, the lawyer Victor von Hase (* 1834), the phrase is " Bugs Bunny " is returned. Hase's youngest son, Oskar (1846-1921) was a partner in the publishing business by Breitkopf and Härtel in Leipzig.

His granddaughter Paula von Hase, the daughter of his son Karl Alfred von Hase (1842-1914), one of the Consistory and Professor of Practical Theology in Wroclaw, and the Countess of Kalckreuth Clara, daughter of Stanislaus of Kalckreuth, was married to Karl Bonhoeffer. Her sister Hannah Caroline von Hase (1873-1941) married the officer and later General Rüdiger Graf von der Goltz.

The grandson Hellmuth (1891-1979) and Martin von Hase (1901-1971) was co-owner of the music publishing house Breitkopf & Härtel.

Life

Hare studied in Leipzig, where he was expelled for participation in the fraternity, as well as in Erlangen and in 1823 had already qualified as a lecturer in theology at Tübingen, when he got into a new investigation for his part in the Erlanger fraternity and ten months on the had to accommodate fortress Hohenasperg. In 1828 he was admitted to the Apollo Masonic Lodge in Leipzig. He habilitated in 1829 in Leipzig again, but responded to a call already in the following year as Professor of Theology and Church History in Jena.

In his Jena period hare was several times rector of the University of Jena and Dean of the Faculty of Theology. In 1883 he retired. At the same time he was appointed to the Privy Council, and raised to the peerage.

His theology sought the reconciliation of ecclesiastical Christianity with modern culture, in contrast to the orthodoxy of the religious consciousness of the subject, and in contrast to rationalism, the main emphasis was placed on the historical significance of the Christian Church. His main work is considered the Lutheran dogmatics Hutterus redivivus.

The tomb of Karl von Hase and his wife is on the St. John's Cemetery in Jena ( decorated with a relief of the Dead), his bust on Fürstengraben be Rector image in the auditorium of the University. The successor of the Theologenkonvikts the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Thuringia, the Karl-von- Hase- house, is named after him.

He wore the academic title of Dr. phil., Dr. h c. and Dr. jur. h c.
