Karl Otto Hunziker

Karl Otto Hunziker ( born August 13, 1841 in Zurich, † May 23 1909 in Kilchberg ZH ) was a Swiss professor of pedagogy and pastor. He is next to Heinrich Pestalozzi Morf as the most important researchers of the 19th century.

Life

Karl Otto Hunziker was born the son of Karl Rudolf Hunziker and Anna Barbara Schinz. The Hunziker family came originally from Bern, Karl Otto in 1890 citizens of Zurich sub rhinestones.

1860, Hunziker matriculated at the University of Zurich, studied theology and history to 1865 completed his studies on 26 January 1865. He was pastor from 1867 to 1871 in sub rhinestones, then teacher education and religious history at teacher training college in Küsnacht. In 1875 he received his doctorate in philosophy at the University of Zurich .. After his habilitation in 1879, he taught history of education and Swiss school history at the University of Zurich (from 1890 as Associate Professor ). His research focus has been the Swiss pedagogue Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi.

From 1872 to 1878 Hunziker was a member of the Zurich Cantonal. From 1886 to 1907 he taught as a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic Institute (now ETH Zurich ).

Hunziker married Luise Pupikofer on September 22, 1868 in Bussnang or Wängi. His wife was born on March 2 in Weinfelden, as the daughter of John and Sophia ( Scherrer ) Pupikofer. She died on December 18, 1918 Bischofszell. Children of Karl Otto and Louise were Karl Rudolf ( born February 5, 1870 in Zurich, † May 27, 1946 in Winterthur ), Barbara Louise (* June 17, 1871, † October 16, 1871 ), Marie Julie (* July 23 1872, † June 30, 1938 ) and Otto Frederick Hunziker (* December 25, 1873, † November 16, 1959 ).

Work

As a pastor, he joined the Swiss Public Welfare Society ( SGG ), was a member of the Commission for the poor teacher training and participated with essays on Philipp Emanuel Fell mountain, Johann Jacob Wehrli and Pestalozzi.

As an educator and researcher Pestalozzi he headed from 1875, the "Permanent School Exhibition" in Zurich with a collection of teaching resources, library and archive. There he taught from 1878 the " Pestalozzi parlor " a, from which the later research facility Pestalozzianum emerged. He was regularly the Pestalozzi- out sheets, and in 1896 a new edition of Pestalozzi's Leonard and Gertrude.
