Karl von der Gröben

Charles of the Groeben ( born September 17, 1788 in Schrengen; † July 13, 1876 on Good Neudörfchen at Marienwerderstraße ) was a Prussian officer, most recently General of Cavalry.

Life

Groeben joined with 18 years in the Prussian army, then participated in the campaigns of 1806 and 1807 in part in the Corps of L' Estocq. In 1812 he went, at his own request, the service and took in the wake of the Russian army in the battles of Lutzen and Bautzen. In August 1813 Groeben was employed as a staff captain in the Prussian General Staff and wounded in front of Dresden. After Groeben had been promoted to lieutenant general in 1842, he was made in 1843 to the Adjutant General of the King. In March 1848 Groeben temporarily took over the command of the Seventh Army Corps. In June 1849 he and Moritz von Hirschfeld commanded posted two to Baden, improvised Prussian Corps to put down the Palatinate-Baden revolution.

1852 Groeben was Commanding General of the Seventh Army Corps, and in June 1853 Guards Corps. The " using official sources " put together Address Book for Berlin and its suburbs in 1899 indicates that Groeben shore later in Berlin- Kreuzberg was named after him; 2009 renamed in May- Ayim -Ufer was decided.
