Karlstad is a small town ( with a status of "City" ) in Kittson County in the U.S. state of Minnesota. In 2010, Karlstad had 760 inhabitants.

Geography

Karlstad is located in northwestern Minnesota near the Canadian border in the north and in the west to North Dakota. The town is located at 48 ° 34'39 " north latitude, 96 ° 31'14 " west longitude and extending over 3.96 km ².

History

In 1883, the Swede Carl August Carlson came to the area and established a farm. 1904 built the SOO Line Railroad, a railroad line that crossed Carlson country. The railway company bought a piece of land at the same time by Carlson to create a railway settlement. To give a name of the settlement, it was decided under a number of other suggestions for the name of Karlstad, for which both the farmer Carlson and the Swedish city of Karlstad were the inspiration.
