Karnivool

Karnivool is a five-member Australian Alternative-Rock-/Progressive-Metal-Musikgruppe from Perth, Western Australia, founded in 1997 .. She has contributed significantly to the popularity of the genre progressive metal in Australia.

History

Karnivool emerged from a high school band that was founded in Perth in 1997. At the beginning the band played cover versions of such diverse bands such as Nirvana and Carcass and a few songs of their own, especially at parties in Perth. 1998 singer Ian Kenny decided to focus on his own songs and got rid of his bandmates. With the guitarist Drew Goddard and Mark Hosking, bass player Jon Stockman, and drummer Ray Hawking he found suitable band members, with whom he recorded a first, self-titled EP. 2001 it is the second EP Persona. On the debut album by guitarist Drew Goddard themes took over the drums and also taught himself to songwriting with a. With Steve Judd finally a regular drummer was found.

In 2009 they had the album Sound Awake. It took second place in the ARIA Album Charts on 15 June 2009. 2009 the band went on an extensive European and U.S. tour. The group, among others, on the South played by Southwest festival in Austin (Texas ) and the Sonisphere Festival.

2013 was followed by the album Asymmetry, which reached # 1 on the charts in Australia and arrived in Germany and Switzerland in the charts.

Music style

The band started as a Nu- Metal band. After Andrew Goddard greater role in the songwriting, the music tended more in the progressive metal direction. The music is based on a combination of tuning down the deep three guitar strings on " Dropped B", as is common in the general nu-metal, while the high three strings are tuned to E standard.

Awards

The WAMI Awards 2007 Karnivool won five WAMingtons for " Most Popular Act ',' Most Popular Live Act ", " Best Male Vocalist" (Ian Kenny ), " Best Guitarist " (Andrew Goddard ) and "Best Hard Rock Act".
