Kennett River, Victoria

Kennett River is a small coastal and river on the Otway Coast in Victoria, Australia. The town is located 174 km west of Melbourne, is 100 kilometers from Geelong and 44 kilometers from Colac. Kennett River is located on the Great Ocean Road and is frequently visited by tourists the 27 kilometer distant scene Lorne.

History

For the location of explorer George Smythe was eponymous, of the Australian river after the River Kennet in Berkshire in the UK named ..

1882 Alex and Donald Macrea brothers and their cousin Alex MacLennan came in search of farmland and fishing grounds in the area. The MacRaes built a farm on which they called The Wye, after a river in the UK. Alex MacLennan moved a little further west and called the place The Kennett, which later became the place Kennett River was.

The Kennet River Post Office opened on 15 December 1938 and closed at 1964.

Tourism

The area is known for its views of the coast, for the Otway National Park and for the opportunities for surfing. Tourists who want to see koalas, they can see which branches off from the Great Ocean Road with fairly high degree of certainty in a one to two kilometer wide woods at the Grey River Road.

Kennett River has a Surf Life Saving Club ( SLSC ).
