Kenyan general election, 1974

The parliamentary elections in Kenya in 1974 were limited choices under conditions of one-party rule and was held in Kenya on 14 October 1974. The ruling party Kenya African National Union was the only legal party in these elections. 740 members of the CANOE competed for the 158 seats in the Kenyan National Assembly. The turnout was 56.5 %. 88 previous holder of a parliamentary seat, including four Minster, were not re-elected. President Jomo Kenyatta appointed after the election again 12 parliamentarians.

More than 700 candidates have been identified in internal party primary elections ( primaries ) in the 158 electoral districts of the country by a simple majority. Requirement was that the candidate's English language dominated so far that they would take part in the debates of the National Assembly possible, convicted offenders were excluded from a certain sentence, bankrupts, but also employees of the public service. The vote was secret, ballots were thrown into ballot boxes closed. Out of 16 female candidates were elected four.
