Kenyan constitutional referendum, 2005

The 2005 constitutional referendum in Kenya was held on 21 November 2005. The proposed new constitution was rejected by 58 percent of the vote.

Expiration

In the referendum, the government acted split. Kibaki's NAK Group, which included politicians from the peoples of the central highlands, in essence, campaigned for the design of the government. The LDP faction of the government met with KANU to a rejection. The two options icons banana ( per ) and Orange ( contra ) were assigned.

In the vote, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM ) won out with 58 % of votes. This was widely seen as a vote on Kibaki's policy.

The President responded then with the dismissal of all ministers and the formation of a government of national unity. She sat down now from politicians of the NAK - direction, regional leaders of diverse backgrounds as well as those representatives of KANU and FORD together who were willing to cooperate.
