Kenyan legislative election, 1961
The elections to the Legislative Council in Kenya in 1961 were conducted in February 1961 in the then British colony of Kenya. The later ruling party of independent Kenya, the Kenya African National Union under Jomo Kenyatta won an absolute majority of seats. In addition to the 33 seats, which stood for election, 20 council seats were reserved for minorities, including ten for whites, eight for the Indian and two for the Arab minority in the country. 12 other council members were not elected, but determined, so that the Council had a total of 65 members.
