Kim Tae-Woo (wrestler)

Kim Tae -woo ( born March 7, 1962 in Gimje, Jeollabuk -do ) is a former South Korean wrestler. He won a bronze medal in free -style heavyweight at the Summer Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988.

Career

Kim Tae -woo began as a teenager with the rings. He belonged to the Sports Club Korea Housing Co. in Seoul. He was 1.81 meters tall and rank first in the middleweight division, but quickly grew into the light heavyweight division and later in the heavyweight division. He was one of the few South Korean wrestler who could reap international success in the heavier weight class. Almost all South Korean wrestler who achieved international success, belonged to the light weight classes. He wrestled exclusively in free style.

Kim Tae -woo ended his career in 1996. Afterwards he took a coaching job at South Korean Wrestling Federation and was temporarily head coach of the freestyle team. Now he lives as a businessman in Dallas (Texas ).

He took a total of four times participate in the Olympics. The first time he started at the age of 22 years at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. In the middleweight division, he took it to fifth place. He was thrown out of the competition by doing a defeat against Rainer Trik from Germany. In 1988 he competed at the Olympic Games in Seoul in the light heavyweight division. He succeeded to win the bronze medal. The wrestler who defeated him there and doing even better prevented, was Macharbek Chadarzew from Russia, a multiple world champion. Very close to a medal win Kim Tae -woo was also at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. He started there in the heavyweight division, defeating first Manabu Nakarishi, Japan and Mark Coleman, United States, then lost to Heiko Balz, Germany, prevailed over Subash Verma, India and lost to Ali Kayali from Turkey. He finished in 4th place. The last time he took in 1996 at the Olympics in part. In Atlanta, he lost in the heavyweight division but against Wilfredo Morales Suarez, Cuba and Sergei Kovalevsky, Belarus and wound up a 17th place.

At World Championships, Kim Tae -woo took part in a total of three times. In 1987, he came in Clermont- Ferrand in the light heavyweight division to 12th place, but in 1991 in Varna and in Toronto in 1993, he missed both times with 4 seats only about the medals. The wrestlers, where he thereby ultimately always failed were Macharbek Chadarzw, Heiko Balz, Leri Chabelow, Soviet Union and Ali Kayali.

Great success he could achieve in Asian Games and Asian Championships. In 1990 he won at the Asian Games in Beijing in the heavyweight division before Boldyn Javhlantugs, Mongolia and Subash Verma, India, 1994, he repeated this success at the Asian Games in Hiroshima, where he, again in the heavyweight division, before Ayub Bani Nosrat, Iran and Baterdene Battogtoh, Mongolia won. Schließlioch 1995, he was in Manila Asia heavyweight champion before Ba Tumongke, China and Ayub Bani Nosrat.
