Kingston, Tasmania

Kingston is the name of a suburb as well as a region in Hobart on the island of Tasmania in Australia. The town is located 15 kilometers south of Hobart in hilly terrain on the Channel Highway. Kingston is also the administrative headquarters of the larger King Borough Council. The city lies along the Browns River, which flows into the Derwent River at Kingston Beach. It is the fastest growing region of Tasmania.

History

Before the European colonizers came to this area, there were about 300 Aboriginal people around the Derwent River and subsisted on, inter alia, by the fish in the river. They called the river " Promenalinah ".

1804 visited the botanist Robert Brown this area. The Browns River, which flows from Mount Wellington to the Kingston Beach, is named after him. It was settled in 1808 by Thomas Lucas and his family, who came from Norfolk Island, and soon the country was developed by numerous other settlers, which spread over the present territory of Kingston. In the early years, the area was named after Brown, but as the population grew and established the commercial area of the city, Kingston was declared in 1851 to the city. As in the recent past, the city has developed economically, where most residents work.

Around the village there are remarkable landscapes for leisure, which can be reached by short journeys. The Kingstonregion contains the Blackmans Bay and Kingston Beach.
