Klarinettenquartett Cl-4
The clarinet quartet Cl -4 was a German clarinet quartet, which was from 1985 to 1988. The group integrated elements of jazz, folk and European concert music in their music, without wanting to belong to the Third Stream.
Formation and Music
Following a meeting of the International Clarinet Society in London in 1984, where the clarinetist Jörgensmann and Kühr her colleague Lajos Dudas met, the idea was born to start a clarinet quartet. Half a year later came the fourth musician to pan - Eickler Bassklarinetist Eckard Kolter man added, who already worked with Jörgensmann in German Clarinet Duo. The music of the Quartet, which repeatedly changed the occupation over time, broke new aesthetic and artistic- autonomous way.
In this group, not just a time in jazz still largely neglected instrument ( clarinet) was particularly exposed, but also the successful collaboration between musicians from different camps. So Jörgensmann, Dudas and Kolter man came from jazz and free improvisation, while Dieter Kühr decreed as a classical musician low on free improvisation experience. The rich possibilities of the clarinet were implemented varied in this group. In the music of Cl -4 you will find a variety of phrasing techniques, arranged and improvised counterpoint and layering of timbres over several octaves. The group thus managed a successful synthesis of the seemingly contradictory Musizierauffassungen of classical and improvisation.
This new musical concept was from the various camps (jazz, classical) included not only prejudice at that time. This is clear from a letter of the Goethe Institute, the " Strange is Phropheten song twice strange what is happening " on the album cover of the second LP - a Goethe quote - is published. Projects
1987 worked Cl -4 with a tent Ensemble Theatre of Crescentia Dünßer and Otto Kukla in about 100 performances of the production Figaro Co at various locations together. For tent ensemble theater at that time were, inter alia, the actor Ulrich Noethen and Alexander Lutz. The film was directed by Robert Giggenbach together with the ensemble. The clarinet quartet played in this production music by Mozart, Manfred Schulze and Eckard Kolter man. The ensemble has performed, among others on a week as part of the Salzburg Festival. About this event the ORF television made a documentary.
