History

In the 20 years Walter Knott and his family sold berries (English berries ) on a street stall. In the 1930s, Knott cultivated the first boysenberry. His wife Cordelia began in 1934 so, fried chicken and boysenberries cake to sell, and after a few years, the waiting time at the restaurant was often a few hours. The location on Highway 39 made the farm into a popular stopover on the way from Los Angeles and the beaches in Orange County. To entertain the waiting, Walter Knott built in 1940 a ghost town buildings from real Western cities. 1968 the family fenced the farm one, demanded for the first time entry and Knott 's Berry Farm officially became a theme park.

With this long history to rise to the claim to the title of " first theme park in America." However, there are doubts about this title because today's Holiday World was opened in 1946 as a theme park and hence more than 20 years before the conversion of the farm in an enclosed area. The title is so from the definition of " theme park " dependent.

After the food division was given to ConAgra in 1995, the management of the amusement parks in 1997 to the Cedar Fair LP, which also operates Cedar Point in Ohio, among others, was sold. Since the acquisition of the parking building reinforces exciting attractions such as the now nine roller coasters.

The park is now divided into the subject areas Boardwalk, Camp Snoopy, Ghost Town, Wild Water Wilderness and Wild West. In October ( in Halloween month), the park will umthematisiert every year and opens as "Knott 's Scary Farm " ( roughly translated: Knotts Scary Farm).
