Kobie van Rensburg

Kobie van Rensburg (* May 23, 1969 in Johannesburg) is a South African tenor and opera director.

Life

Van Rensburg studied singing with Werner Neel at North West University of South Africa, by the way also law and politics at the Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education. In an interview van Rensburg said: "I was always a better lawyer, a singer, I was Dunces. "

His debut role he sang in 1991 at the age of 21 in a production of Mozart's The Abduction from the Seraglio at the Roodepoort City Opera. He embodied the Belmonte. In 1996 he received an engagement at the Munich Gärtnerplatztheater. Van Rensburg's work is associated since 2000 with the Lautten Compagney Berlin under the direction of Wolfgang Katschner. With them he led Monteverdi's L' Orfeo at Halle an der Saale and released three CDs. Since 2011 van Rensburg is working with the ensemble for old and new music così facciamo, with them he led Handel's Ariodante on.

In Lied van Rensburg been focused on English composers of the Baroque (eg Dowland, Byrd, Purcell ), but also compositions by, among others, Beethoven, Schumann and Schubert part of his repertoire.

In 2006, he debuted at New York's Metropolitan Opera as Mozart's Idomeneo.

Van Rensburg's repertoire focuses primarily on the musical style of the Baroque era.

Directing

At Munich Gärtnerplatztheater Peer Boysen staged the theater after a pastiche of fashion with van Rendsburg, which includes in addition to the music of Handel and other Baroque composers work. In 2006, he was with Monteverdi's L' Orfeo his directorial debut at the Opernhaus Halle ad Saale, in which he also sang the title role. Handel's first oratorio, Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno was listed in 2009 in Passau under van Rensburg line. His most recent directorial work dealing with Handel's opera Ariodante, which was performed in February 2011 at Munich Cuvilliés Theatre for the first time, as well as Mozart's opera Le Nozze di Figaro, which celebrated in Mönchengladbach premiere in October 2011. As in its production Il Pianto d' Orfeo joined van Rensburg in Ariodante dance as a means of expression with the music. The dancer acts as the alter ego of the singer and illustrates the feelings of that person.
