Koperniki

Koperniki ( German Köppernig ) obsolete: Koppirnik is a village in the town and rural municipality of Nysa ( Neisse ) in the powiat Nyski the Opole Voivodeship.

Geography

The village is located about 80 kilometers south of Wroclaw and seven kilometers south-west of the county and township seat Nysa. To the north lies the Neisser reservoir Jezioro Nyskie, which is fed by Glatzer Neisse.

History

The first mention of " Coprnih " is occupied for the year 1272. It was German law established in the middle of the 13th century and 1284 listed in a directory of the 65 major German villages of the principality of Neisse, which in 1290 became the country's sovereignty. Together with the principality of Neisse it came under Bishop Preczlaw of Pogarell 1342 as a fief to the crown of Bohemia, who held the Habsburgs from 1526. The population of the town was almost entirely Catholic after the Reformation.

After the First Silesian War in 1742 Köppernig coincided with the greater part of the principality of Neisse to Prussia. At the local cemetery in the Battle of Bautzen wounded and deceased in the near Grunau Russian guardsman was buried in 1813. After the reorganization of the province of Silesia rural community Köppernig belonged from 1816 to the district Neisse in the district of Opole. The municipality formed in 1874 Köpernig included the rural communities Kaindorf, Köppernig and Naasdorf and the estate districts Kaindorf and Naasdorf.

1912 received Köppernig rail connection at the track Neisse- Angsleah the Neisser circle Bahn AG.

After the Second World War the village was found to be Koperniki under Polish administration and expelled the remaining German population. In its place, Polish displaced persons and settlers came from Wiktorówka ( Tarnopol Voivodeship ) and Jeleśnia.

Koperniki now belongs to the city and rural municipality of Nysa, the railway traffic was stopped.

  • The Neo-Gothic brick building of the Catholic parish church of St. Nicholas was built in 1881/82 on cruciform layout with front tower. Was adopted from the previous building, among others, the font of the 16th century.

Personalities

Especially in the literature on the history of Silesia is believed that the Steinmetz Nicolaus Koppirnig, great-grandfather of Nicolaus Copernicus (actually Niklas Koppernigk ) comes from Köppernig.
