Korahane

Region

Korahane is a rural municipality in the department of Dakoro in Niger.

Geography

Korahane lies in the Sahel. The neighboring municipalities are Birni LaLLe the north and east and Adjékoria the south and west. The municipality is divided into 13 administrative villages, eight traditional villages, six villages and a water source. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village Korahane.

History

The main town Korahane was founded by a Hausa called Nahantchi in an inhabited by nomadic Fulani and Tuareg territory. There are four traditional power seats (French: chefferies traditionnelles ) in place: two of the Hausa and Fulani of the two. Amadou Cheiffou, who was Prime Minister of Niger from 1991 to 1993, is the younger brother of a Fulani chief of Korahane and left several infrastructure projects in place to perform, including the establishment of a health center. The rural community Korahane originated as an administrative unit in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform a part of the canton Birni LaLLe.

Population

At the 2001 census Korahane had 6846 inhabitants. For the year 2010 9255 population were calculated.

Economy and infrastructure

The municipality is located in a zone is operated in the rain-fed agriculture.
