Kornaka

Region

Kornaka is a rural municipality in the department of Dakoro in Niger.

Geography

Kornaka is located at the junction of the Sahel to large landscape Sudan. The neighboring municipalities are Birni LaLLe in the north, guidan Amoumoune in the east, Maïyara in the south, Sabon -Machi in the southwest and Adjékoria in the northwest. The municipality is divided into 149 administrative villages, a traditional village, 121 hamlets and 59 stock. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village Kornaka. In the south of Kornaka there is a large valley, the Goulbi n'Kaba.

History

The French colonial administration set up in 1900, a canton in a Kornaka. The rural community Kornaka went as an administrative unit 2002 through the course of a nationwide administrative reform from the Canton Kornaka, were extracted from the addition Adjékoria, Dan Goulbi, Maïyara and Sabon -Machi as an independent country communities.

Population

At the 2001 census Kornaka had 105 097 inhabitants. For the year 2010 142.099 inhabitants were calculated. Kornaka making it the sixth largest city in terms of population of Niger to Niamey, Zinder, Maradi, Tessaoua and Torodi.

Economy and infrastructure

In the north- east of the district Agropastoralismus is operated in the Southwest rainfed agriculture is the dominant form of employment. Kornaka is located on the National Road 30, which connects the village with the departmental capital Dakoro.
