Kováčová, Zvolen District

Kováčová ( until 1927 slovak " Kováčova "; Hungarian Kovácsfalva - to 1882 Kovacsova ) is a municipality and health resort in central Slovakia. It lies in the valley at the foot of Zvolenska kotlina Kremnitz mountains and is located about 5 km away from Zvolen and 18 km from Banska Bystrica.

The village was first mentioned in 1254 as Koachou. The original location was approximately 2 km to the west of the church today and is now known as Stara Kováčová. When drilling works for the construction of a steel and iron factory in 1898 they came across a hot spring, and shortly thereafter (1899, 1905) it was used as a spa resort.
