Kräuterlikör

As bitter or herbal bitters are denoted by a combination of herbs that will have a positive effect on digestion. They will be happy drunk as a digestif or are part of long drinks. The bitter substances, which depend on the main herbal ingredients to stimulate in particular the stomach and bile secretion.

According to the EU Regulation, a bitter spirit is a spirit with a predominantly bitter taste, which is achieved by aromatization with natural or nature-identical flavoring substances, and the Bitter must have a minimum alcohol content of 15%.

Many designated as bitters products actually are among the liqueurs due to their high content of sugar of more than 100 grams per liter. They are known as herb, often called " semi-sweet ".

Bitter herbs are produced worldwide, in Germany, many regions have their own specialties.
