Kurt-Schumacher-Platz (Berlin U-Bahn)

Metro Station Kurt -Schumacher-Platz is a station of the metro line U6 and is located in the Berlin district of Reinickendorf of the district of the same. The station is managed BVG internally under the symbol Sch.

The metro station is located at Kurt -Schumacher-Platz in the north of Berlin. Due to its proximity to Tegel Airport is the metro station as a transfer point between the U6 and the bus to the airport and in the surrounding neighborhoods a major transportation hub in the north of the city.

History

The station was first endpoint of the first new section of the Berlin U -Bahn after the end of World War II and was opened together with this on May 3, 1956.

Already at this time, the continuation of the route to the end point was Tegel (since 1992: Alt- Tegel) firmly planned, so that from the outset a through station was built.

Design of the station

With the architectural design of the first post-war stations Senate Building Director Bruno Grimmek was commissioned. Like its predecessor, Alfred Grenander he designed a basic scheme, which was the local circumstances of the individual stations each adapted. According to the scheme of the station has a central platform of around eight meters wide. The station ceiling rests on greenish central supports of natural stone. It is along angled and raised.
