Lajos Blau

Ludwig Blue ( born Lajos Blau born April 29, 1861 in Putnok; † March 8, 1936 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian-Jewish scholar. From 1914 to 1932 he was director of the Landesrabbinerschule in Budapest.

His specialty on which he published a variety of books and other publications ( articles in the Journal of Hebrew bibliography, in the annals of the Hungarian Literary Society, etc.), was Talmudic law and realities.

Life

Ludwig Blau et al studied at the yeshiva in Bratislava and from 1880 to 1888 at the Landesrabbinerschule in Budapest, where he worked for Talmud from 1887 as a teacher ( " Supplent "). In parallel, he studied philosophy and Oriental Studies at the University of Budapest ( Dr. phil. 1887). He received his rabbinical diploma in 1888 In the same year he was at the Landesrabbinerschule Budapest ao and 1889, Associate Professor of Bible, Hebrew and Aramaic and Talmud ( until his death).; In 1899 he took over additional charge of the library ( until 1922 ); In 1914 he was appointed director of this institution.

He was, inter alia, many decades ( 1890-1930 ) the editor of the Hungarian Jewish magazine Magyar Zsidó Szemle. He was a member of the Executive Board of the Association Mekize nirdamim.
