Lake Silvaplana

Lake Silvaplana ( Romansh: Lej da Silvaplauna ) is a lake in the Upper Engadine. It is named after the village of Silvaplana and the middle of the three lakes in the Engadine lakes. It is drained by the Inn, which is still called Sela. The lake goes on at a narrow point in the Lej da Champfèr. This narrowing is caused by the alluvial fans of Silvaplana, which is always pushed further from the stream Ova dal Vallun into the lake.

To the south of the lake lie the settlement Surlej and Corvatsch ski area. The lake is popular with kite and windsurfers; primarily of uniform waving strong Maloja wind because that comes up usually around noon.

Varia
