Lalden

Lalden ( Valais German: Lalu ) is a municipality in the district of Visp in the German-speaking part of the canton of Valais in Switzerland.

Geography

Lalden is located in the Upper Valais between the north bank of the Rhone and the old Lötschberg South Ramp. The municipality is bordered to the north by Egger Mountain, on the northeast by Naters, to the east by Brig, Visp in the south and to the west Baltschieder.

History

1218 the village was first mentioned under the name Laudona. Over the course of 320 years, the congregation changed its name several times. 1540 changed the community name for the last time, namely, to present-day Lalden.

In the 1960s, the Lonza Group moved in Lalden.

Population

The approximate population numbers were counted true since 1800. 1800 lived about 100 people in the community. This number rose in 1900 lived 200 1970 already 545 people in the community. Today about 700 people live in the community.
