Lansing is a small town ( with a status of "City" ) in Lansing Township, a part of the Allamakee County in the far northeast of the U.S. state of Iowa. In the census in 2010, Lansing had 999 inhabitants.

Location and transport

Lansing is located at 43 ° 21'41 " north latitude and 91 ° 13'24 " west longitude and extending over 3.0 km ² spread to 2.8 km ² land and 0.2 km ² water surface. Lansing is located on the west bank of the upper Mississippi River, which forms the border with Wisconsin. The border with Minnesota is located 18.7 km to the north.

History

In 1848 William Garrison of the first white settlers on the territory of today's Lansing and acquired large landholdings. 1849 a post office was established, which was operated by Garrison.

1851 bought John Haney, whose son James Haney and H. H. Houghton, the country, and laid on a settlement. Named after the city of Lansing this was in Michigan.

1864 the site of the Town status was granted; 1867 was followed by the elevation to the City and S. V. Shaw became the first mayor.
