Laroque, Hérault

Laroque ( Occitan: La Roca) is a commune in the Hérault in the Languedoc- Roussillon region. It belongs to the community association Cévennes Gangeoises et Suménoises.

On 1 January 2011 the community numbered 1519 inhabitants. They are called " Laroquois ".

Laroque is between the Ganges and Saint- Bauzille -de- Putois strategically located at the entrance of the level of the Languedoc to the valleys of the Cevennes.

Even prehistoric evidence of settlement have been found in the surrounding caves. The Phoenicians use the Hérault river to gain access to the Cévennes and located there silver and gold mines. Celts have left menhirs, in the Gallo -Roman period was on the clifftop an oppidum. In the Carolingian period, the Priory of Saint -Bres was built, the ruins are one kilometer away from the place.

Laroque is twinned with Saint- Hubert in Belgium.
