Tressan

Tressan is a commune in the department of Hérault in the Languedoc- Roussillon region. It has 553 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) on an area of 3.92 km ².

Geography

Tressan is located on the left bank of the Hérault, about 40 kilometers west of Montpellier and 40 kilometers northeast of Béziers on a hill and is surrounded by vineyards.

History

Tressan belonged in the 12th century to the possession of Count Guilhem de Montpellier. Tressans city core is fixed. The medieval city was used to control the trade and travel paths in the area. The valley of the Hérault was once cultivated by the Benedictines; swampy parts were drained in order to operate agriculture and viticulture can.

Attractions

The central city is densely built and secured; it is home to, among others, the castle of the Counts of Tressan. The parish church of Saint- Geniès originally dates from the 17th century. The tower was renovated at the end of the 19th century. The fountain Font de Las Costes 18th century restored until 2011.

Economy

In the vicinity of Tressan especially wine production still. The place itself is used for tourism.

Passing through the municipality, the Department of Road D32 Montagnac after Gignac. The nearest motorway is the A75, the nearest airports are located in Beziers, Montpellier and Nimes.
