Larry Ward (actor)

Larry Ward ( born October 3, 1924 in Columbus, Ohio; † 16 February 1985 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American actor.

Life

Ward began his career in the mid 1950s in the soap opera The Brighter Day, but could gain no other film and television roles in the following years. In 1962 came his career in motion when he received Bros. television series guest appearances in a number of Warner. After an appearance as a United States Marshal Frank Ragan in Cheyenne, he received the lead role in the spin-off of The Dakotas. The western series about the adventures of Marshal and his deputies, however, was discontinued after the first season. Ward played the rest of the 1960s, a few guest roles in various series, but his TV appearances became rare.

Much like Clint Eastwood, who was gone to his television career with one thousand miles of dust to Italy and there under Sergio Leone to star, even Ward tried his luck in spaghetti westerns. He starred in The shoot himself in rags as well as in a treasure not to Steal on the side of Ingeborg Schöner, but they were not very successful commercially. Back in Hollywood, he was a nameless minor role in the Western classics he was called Hombre with Paul Newman, a film career in the United States, however, was not granted to him. He eventually played yet in two Italian crime films and a made in the Philippines B-movie horror film.

His heavily distorted voice was heard in Star Wars as well as in Return of the Jedi, where he spoke Greedo, Jabba the Hutt, respectively.
