Lax

Lax ( in the local dialect [ lɑkχʃ ] ) is a municipality in the district of Goms in the canton of Valais in Switzerland.

Geography

Lax is located in the region Aletsch at the entrance to Goms. The town itself is located on Lax 1'048 m above sea level. M. The lowest point of Lax and the district of Goms is located in the valley of the Rhone at 980 meters above sea level. M.

The municipality of Lax, a narrow band extending from the valley up to the high mountains of the Gletschgebietes solely lies on the right (north) side of the Rhone, so on a southern slope. Despite the altitude Lax therefore has a mild climate and is considered a health resort. Even the frost-sensitive walnut thrives in Lax - than anywhere else in the Goms. To the east of the deep Gorpigraben and Altbach form the boundary of the municipality Fiesch.

History

The oldest documented mention of Lax as a community of tens of Dens Goms dates from the year 1308. The first church Regulatory come from 1436th
