Lee Cattermole (born 21 March 1988 in Stockton- on-Tees ) is an English professional football player in the service of Sunderland AFC.

Career

Lee Cattermole was born in the industrial city of Stockton -on-Tees and plays since the age of seven at Middlesbrough FC. There he went through all the youth teams, before he made his debut on 15 December 2005 at the age of 17 years for the first team. In the UEFA Cup match against Litex Lovech Cattermole came on in the 83rd minute for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

His debut in the Premier League gave Cattermole on 2 January 2006 in the derby against Newcastle United. With outstanding performance, he was then the "Man of the match" determined. By the end of the season Cattermole denied regular games for his team. In the UEFA Cup final against FC Sevilla he was substituted after 85 minutes with the score at 0:3. On April 2, 2006 with the 1-0 winner against Manchester City, he scored his first goal for Middlesbrough. In the match against Fulham on May 7, 2006 Cattermole was first captain, with which he became the youngest ever captain of FC Middlesbrough.

In the season 2006/2007 Cattermole finally managed a breakthrough and became a regular player. He completed 31 games for his team, scoring two goals. In October he was appointed for the first time in the squad of the English Under-21 national team for games against Germany and the Netherlands, but did not play.

In the meantime, has " Super Lee" established and one of the favorites of the public fans. On 20 October 2006 Cattermole signed a four -year contract with FC Middlesbrough and tied so that long-term to the club where he has been active since his youth. Nevertheless Cattermole left the Middlesbrough FC prematurely on 29 July 2008 and signed for a transfer fee of 2.5 million pounds a new contract with Wigan Athletic for a term of three years.

At Wigan he showed a good performance during its first season. Subsequently, many other clubs were aware of him. In August 2009, Cattermole joined for 7 million euros for the AFC Sunderland. There he received a four-year contract.
