Lee Woon-jae

Lee Woon- jae (born 26 April 1973 in Cheongju ) is a South Korean football goalkeeper. His current team is the Suwon Samsung Bluewings in the Korean K- League.

Career

His first of a total of 132 A- international matches he played on March 5, 1994 against the United States, the game ended with a 0-1 defeat to South Korea. In the 1994 World Cup he was in the squad of the Korean team and came off the bench in the 2:3 defeat to the selection of Germany in the second half. Between 1995 and 1999, Lee was no longer called into the national team, which is why he missed the Asian Cup 96 and World Cup 98.

In the Asia Championship 2000 Lee led his team to the semifinals. They celebrated the greatest success then at the 2002 World Cup, when the then co-hosts South Korea reached the semifinals. In the quarter- final against Spain Lee was able to keep the penalty of Joaquín Sánchez and help his team to progress. Also in the Asia Cup in 2004 and the 2006 World Cup he was the goalkeeper of the South Korean team.

In 2007, Lee Woon- jae was third at the Asian Cup with South Korea, in this case, the Koreans had to unsubscribe in the knockout round three penalties. In the quarterfinals against Iran Lee could hold two penalty kicks and secure the semi-finals, where they lost, however, against Iraq with 3:4 on penalties. The match for third place against Japan, they won again 6-5, since Lee could parry a penalty. After the championship was publicly known that Lee had with three other teammates visited a bar during the tournament and there consumed alcohol. After this incident, he was first suspended for one year from the national team.

In the Football World Cup 2010, he was indeed in the squad South Korea, arrived there, however, to no use. After the World Cup he finished his international career, he played his last game on 11 August 2010 against Nigeria.
