Legendary Champions is an American documentary from the year 1968.

Action

The documentation covers the heavyweight world championship fights in boxing 1882-1929. Showing footage shown by John L. Sullivan and James J. Corbett. These scenes were filmed in 1894 by Thomas Alva Edison.

Here are pictures of the first filmed world title in 1897 between Corbett and Bob Fitzsimmons the winner and the fight between James J. Jeffries and Tom Sharkey, the Jeffries 1899 could decide for themselves. The next film document shows the victory by Jack Johnson over the world champion Tommy Burns in 1908 and 1915 by a fraud scandal overshadowed Johnson's fight against Jess Willard, in which Johnson co went.

Jack Dempsey shows how he drives jokes with movie stars such as Charlie Chaplin and Douglas Fairbanks. His victory in a brutal battle against Willard is the theme of the next film clips. It follows Dempsey's defeat by Gene Tunney.

Criticism

Was AH Weiler of the New York Times that the filmmakers have managed to dig up enough rare, unusual and amusing footage to put together and cut to give a glimpse of the male martial art that fell for the most part lackluster fighting victim be.

In 1969 the film was nominated in the category Best Documentary Oscar.
