Leixões S.C.

The Leixões Sport Club is a football club from the port of Leixões in the district of the Portuguese city of Matosinhos, near Porto, in the north of the country.

The greatest success of the club was winning the Portuguese Cup in 1961 (2-0 against FC Porto ). In 2002, the club was again in the final, but lost to Sporting Lisbon. Thus, the club was qualified for the European Cup, as Sporting had already qualified by its table space in advance. This Leixões was the first third-rate club from Portugal in European football. After the qualification against the Macedonian club Belasica Strumica was over, Leixões but failed in the first round of the UEFA Cup just to PAOK Salonika.

Since the 2003/ 04 season Leixões played in the 2nd Portuguese league, the Liga de Honra (Honorary League ). In the season 2006/ 07 Leixões champion and rose to the first league. There, holding the club until 2010 before we had to play as a Table again the transition to the second division.

In addition to football and women's soccer departments billiards, boxing, karate, swimming, and volleyball still be operated.
