Len Soccio

Leonard " Len " Soccio ( born May 28, 1967 in St. Catharines, Ontario ) is a former Canadian- German ice hockey player, who was active during his career, including for the ESC Wedemark Scorpions, or for the Hannover Scorpions in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. He is currently player-coach at the Regional division SC Langenhagen Jets active.

Career as a player

After Soccio had played Leagues since 1984 in various North American Minor, but not make the breakthrough and to come into a team of the National Hockey League, he joined in the summer of 1993, the ESC Wedemark in the third-rate German Oberliga Nord. There Wedemark with him two years later succeeded in rising to the 2nd Bundesliga and, under the new name ESC Wedemark Wildcats, the jump in the German Hockey League.

Soccio played from 1996 to 2006 exclusively for the Hannover Scorpions and its predecessor club ESC Wedemark Scorpions in the DEL. He completed a total of 504 DEL - games in which he collected 492 points scorer scored (156 Tore/336 assists) and 760 penalty minutes. This placed it before the start of the 2006/ 07 # 3 on the eternal scorer standings. He is also the second-best assist provider of the history of the DEL. At the Hannover Scorpions, he cites all leaderboard ( points scorer, games, goals, assists, penalty minutes ).

After the 2004/ 05 season, he finished his career due to injury. The shirt number 20, which Soccio wore during his career, is not longer available from the Hannover Scorpions. An oversized jersey with the number 20 depends since 7 March 2006 on the ice at the TUI Arena to honor Soccios merits for the Hannover Scorpions. On 11 February 2006 also found a farewell match for Leonard Soccio Icehouse Melle village place before about 3500 spectators.

Career as a coach

After the end of his professional career Soccio aspired to a career as a coach. First, he was junior coordinator of the Hannover Scorpions and CEO of Lenny Soccio Ice & Event Center. Soccio published its plans to build an ice rink in August 2006 and the completion of the sports facility was in the fall of 2008. In spring 2009, the company that operates the ice stadium went into bankruptcy, but remained at a new company, which also participates Soccio, first opened.

For the 2007/08 season Soccio returned to the ice and took over at the ESC Hannover Scorpions as a striker and coach a dual function. The team rose from the fifth division in the Regionalliga Nord and took the new name Langenhagen Jets in the 2008/ 09 season in the Regionalliga Nord part. Venue of the Society is the Lenny Soccio Ice & Event Center in Langenhagen. Soccio was also in the episode player-coach of the first team.

Since August 1, 2011 Soccio is assistant coach of the German women's national team.

Since July 31, 2013 Soccio is head coach of Hannover Scorpions.
