Leonel Suárez

Leonel Suárez Fajardo ( born September 1, 1987 in Santiago de Cuba ) is a Cuban decathlete.

As a 19 -year-old he was in 2007 Cuban champion with 8156 points. In his first season he won in 2008 at the international meeting in Ratingen with the Cuban record of 8451 points. This brand he improved at the Olympic Games in Beijing 8527 points; with this performance he won the bronze medal behind surprise Bryan Clay ( USA) and Andrey Krautschanka ( BLR). At the World Championships in Berlin a year later succeeded Suárez on past successes to tie and won the victory of the American Trey Hardee the silver medal.

At the 2011 World Championships in Daegu he won the bronze medal with 8501 points behind Ashton Eaton and Trey Hardee. The same result also in the 2012 Olympics in London. Suárez struggled behind the U.S. track and field athletes to the second Olympic bronze medal.
