Dangerous Liaisons ( Original title: Les Liaisons Dangereuses ) is a French-Italian screen adaptation of the epistolary novel ( 1782 ) by Choderlos de Laclos with Jeanne Moreau and Gérard Philipe from the year 1959.
Action
Juliette de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont have an open marriage in Paris in the 1950s. You find pleasure in each other cheat and then tell each of their amorous adventures. When Juliette's lover Jerry Court decides to marry her young cousin Cécile Volanges, Juliette asks her husband to seduce Cecile before the wedding. The young girl, however, is actually in love with the students Danceny, who asks her to wait for him until he has finished his studies. Together with Court and her mother Madame Cécile Volanges travels in the French ski resort of Megève. There also Valmont arrives, the Cécile reported about their affair to Danceny. As Valmont falls while skiing, he meets the beautiful Marianne Tourvel know. Dangerous Liaisons was premiered on September 9, 1959 in France. Leading actor Gérard Philipe died nine weeks later at the age of only 36 years of liver cancer. Jeanne Moreau managed to film a breakthrough in their homeland. In Germany the film was released in theaters on October 6, 1961. On 25 December 1972, the film adaptation was first shown on German television.
